How to make money on Tik Tok
Six months ago, I would have laughed my ass off at that statement.
At 38 years old, I was convinced I was far too old for Tik Tok.
I had very little (read: NONE) interest in watching tweens twerk to the newest Drake song.
Earlier this year, I downloaded the app. I played around with it for about 10 minutes, and quickly deleted it from my phone.
I’m convinced my IQ dropped 17% watching the videos I watched.
I was absolutely dumbfounded by people’s fascination with it.
A buddy of mine was seeing hockey stick like growth on YouTube. Him and I has about the same size channel, and what seemed like almost overnight, he blew past me. So, I shot him a message on Facebook, asking what his secret was.
He responded with two words;
Nope…I tried that, I thought to myself.
I told him I was too old for that app, and he told me he thought the same thing. He said if you want to quickly grow your YouTube channel, you’d be a fool not to jump on Tik Tok. Growing my YouTube channel has been a big focus (subscribe here) of mine, so I downloaded Tik Tok once again.
I played around with it for a couple days, and it probably took me a little bit over a week to finally post my first video.
That was April 21st of this year, and things took off.
My initial goal was to grow my YouTube channel, but then saw an opportunity to quickly grow my email list as well. For every online entrepreneur, growing your email list should be priority #1. Never stop growing your email list. I really wish I listened to that advice when I got started in 2010. Learn my this massive mistake of mine.
In this blog post, I am going to outline a 7 part framework for publishing content on social media. This works on any platform, not just Tik Tok. The first 6 steps are always the same, and the 7th step is the platform. So this can work on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and/or LinkedIn.
If you’re more of a video person, here is the YouTube video of this blog post;
Why Tik Tok?
The organic reach is absolutely insane on this platform. In the 10 years in this industry, I have never seen anything quite like it. It’s truly mind blowing.
I’ve got one video that has over one million views (no, not be dancing) and several over 100k views. Like with any new (er) platform, organic reach eventually slows down with more people using the app. For now, it’s the best opportunity online to gain a truckload of attention, quickly build an audience, build up your YouTube channel along with your email list.
With any social media platform, you want to focus on building your email list. Your email list is something you own, something you control. Tik Tok (or any other platform) could ban you for no reason, and you’d be screwed, if you did not build up your email list. Do not build your (entire) business on someone else’s platform. It’s far too risky.
With Tik Tok, they allow you to add a clickable link in your bio once your cross over 1,000 followers. I always link out to my landing page, as I want to capture their name/email address. You could link to your website, blog, landing page, sales page, Shopify store, or Amazon listing.
I have tested several different landing pages with Tik Tok, and talked to several marketers. If your landing page is converting above 20%, you’re in good shape. Which might seem strange, as that’s quite low, as I typically aim for 35%+ or more. From what I gather, you get a lot of viral traffic on Tik Tok, so the traffic isn’t as targeted, hence the lower conversion rate.
Again, I use Tik Tok to grow my email list. I then email them offers. Initially, I recommend another company’s product upfront (high ticket affiliate marketing). I then promote my products later on in the automated email sequence.
If you want to copy my entire funnel (landing page, bridge page, all email sequences, automations & tags), you can get access to it here for FREE. This funnel has taken me six months to fine tune, and it converts very well.
Why Affiliate Marketing?
Here are a few reason I like affiliate marketing, and suggest people who are just starting out.
- You don’t have to create a product or service yourself
- You don’t have to worry about customer service
- You can pick & promote from thousands of products online
- You can literally make as much money as you want
- You can get started for very little investment (time & money)
I am not going to say it’s the perfect business model like many entrepreneurs do – who conveniently have a course for sale on affiliate marketing. There is no perfect business model. You have to find what works for you, and do ti. Every busienss model works, IF you work it.
7 Steps to Making Money on Tik Tok
Here are the 7 steps to make money online;
Step #1 – Find Your Pocket of People
I got the phrase pocket of people from Andre Chaperon several years ago, and I am a sucker for alliteration. Also referred to as an audience, niche market or niche. This is a group of people who have a problem, an obstacle, or a challenge they are trying to overcome.
Here’s a couple questions to help you uncover your pocket of people;
- What obstacles have you overcame in your life?
- Divorce, lost weight, gained confidence, etc
- What problems have you solved?
- Reduced diabetes, got rid of adult acne, taught your kids how to eat vegetables, etc
These are all real world problems that people are currently facing. Some are online seeking a solution. Your story/experience could help them save time, money, frustration, anxiety, stress, shame and/or embarrassment.
- Have you mastered a skill?
- Web design, writing, video editing, etc
It could be a job you have, or once had, and could teach on that topic. It could be a skill you’ve picked up over the years that you could teach or help others learn. Over the years, I have self taught myself web design and video editing via YouTube University. This is something I sometimes teach on my YouTube channel. I am not the “go to” expert on either of these topics, however, I could certainly help out someone who is just getting started with either.
Here’s a great reminder;
To teach on any topic, you only need to be one step ahead of the person you’re teaching.
Many people dismiss the skills/experiences they’ve gained, and over look the value they could provide.
- Do you have a hobby?
- Hunting, fishing, camping, etc
Yes, you can earn money from your passions. You could become an affiliate for an online hunting/fishing/camping store, and earn money by recommending their products to your people/audience.
Amazon, Nike, Bose, Hoe Depot, Walmart, eBay, Target all have affiliate programs.
Step #2 – Setting Up Your Profile for Success
This is a framework that works for any social media platform.
Here is the universal framework;
I Help X Achieve Y, So That They Can Z
X = Pocket of People
Y = What you do/teach
Z = Ultimate outcome
Here are a few examples;
- I help Dads (X) earn money online (Y), so that they can spend more time with their family (Z)
- I help divorced Dads (X) increase their confidence (Y), so that they can date whoever they please (Z)
- I help Millennials (X) build a YouTube channel (Y), so that they can effortlessly sell their online courses (Z)
Step #3 – Set Up Your Landing Page (Capture leads)
This is how you collect name & email addresses.
Again, this is priority #1 when building ANY type of online business. There are no exceptions.
Your landing page is;
- The is the front door to your online business
- These pages attract leads, prospects and builds your email list
- Your email list, and the relationship you build with it…is the most valuable cash producing asset you own.
- You’ll discover that you can make money “on command” by sending out emails to your database
If you’re just starting out, and on a budget, here is the ONLY tool you need to start your online business. Do not listen to the people who tell you you need 17 pieces of software or a complex funnel. This adds confusion and overwhelm, which leads to inaction.
I stumbled upon an email service provider that is very similar to ConvertKit, at a third of the price. From what I have experienced, they offer much better customer service than ConvertKit, too. This tool is called bird Send and they offer a FREE 14 day trial. The monthly investment is $9/month for 1,000 subscribers.
If you use my link below, you’ll get an additional 500 contacts for FREE.
I recently did a step-by-step training on how to set up an email sequence and a landing page using Bird Send.
You’ll see how insanely simple it is. You literally could have a funnel live before your head hits the pillow tonight.
Check it out below;
I no longer use Bird Send, as I outgrew it.
A few months back, I switched everything over to Kartra. And wish I would have done it years ago.
It’s an all-in-one tool, here’s a glimpse in what this software does;

Step #4 – Find a Product to Promote
Now, it’s time to find something to promote.
This can be a physical product or a digital product. I prefer digital, as the commissions are much higher. There are several affiliate marketplaces online. These marketplaces have hundreds of (mostly) digital products/software that you can apply to become an affiliate for.
Here are a few of the popular ones;
You can also use Google to manually search for affiliate products. This is a great way to find some hidden gems that many people might not be aware of. A lot less competition, could mean more commission for you.
I recently did a more in-depth YouTube video on how to find affiliate products to promote.
Step #5 – Decide on a Domain Name
This step isn’t necessarily required, but I HIGHLY recommend it.
It astounds me how many marketers use bit.ly to shorten their links. It looks somewhat spammy, and sometimes, it’s really hard to remember.
For $8.88, you can create a unique, memorable URL. I use Name Cheap for my domains.
I may have a slight obsession with these, but get a lot of compliments on them.
Here are a few of my customized URLs that I use to re-direct to landing pages, or web properties of mine.
www.PissOffBoss.com – This is a URL I use on Tik Tok directing them to a landing page of mine.
www.AdamTeaches.com – This URL re-directs to my YouTube channel. When talking with people in person, I can easily drop this URL.
www.300Extra.com – This is a guide that I sell on how to write, publish and profit from selling simple little ebooks.
www.CopyAdam.com – This URL sends people to a landing page of mine where anyone can grab my high ticket affiliate marketing funnel completely for FREE.
So you might be wondering…
How in the hell do you find unique domains like that?
Well, I’m glad you asked. For years, I have used this secret weapon to find killer, unique domains. It’s a website called NameMesh, and allows you to find great domain names that are available. You just enter in a keyword or phrases, and it’ll find all the available domains with your keyword/phrase in the domain.
Earlier this year, I recorded a YouTube video with 8 other tips on when finding a great domain name.
Once you purchase the domain, you’ll re-direct it to your landing page. Very simple to do in Name Cheap.
Step #6 – Write Out Your Email Sequence
Are you interested in making money while you sleep?
This is how you do it.
In step #4, we discussed setting up your landing page, which allows you to capture the lead. Now it’s time to follow up with this lead.
Not to worry…this all happens automatically.
You write the email sequence ONCE, and these emails work for you 24/7//365 for months/years to come.
It’s a beautiful thing.
Often times, with whatever product you’re promoting, the company offers email templates. Email templates that you can literally just copy and paste into your email autoresponder. If they do not offer you any email templates, below is a loose email outline.
Email #1 – Setting the Stage
This is the first/welcome email in a sequence of emails. First impressions are insanely important, so this is a very important email, hence why it’s called set the stage. Share a bit about who you are, but don’t overdue it. They want to know how you can help them. That’s all they care about. Let them know what is to be expected.
Email #2 – High Dramatic Opening
This is where you want to share a high drama story. You want to capture their attention, and pique their interest. This story should be relatable to your market. Empathy is your secret weapon when it comes to marketing. You provide them with some key points, but how you eventually you hit a wall on your journey. You want to tease the epiphany you had that’ll be revealed in the following email.
Email #3 – The Epiphany
This is where you discovered the solution (to the problem your lead is looking for). This is where you link to the product/service you are promoting.
Email #4 – Hidden Benefits
You have revealed the solution (product/service you’re promoting), now it’s time to share the other hidden benefits that they might not have considered.
Email #5 – Sense of Urgency and Call to Action
This is the final email in the initial sequence. The purpose of this email is to get your lead to take action. Smart entrepreneurs typically offer bonuses if they were to purchase the product/service. This is where you could let them know the bonuses expire (urgency).
Again, this is a loose outline of the popular Soap Opera email sequence made popular by Russell Brunson, although it was Andre Chaperon who coined the term Soap Opera Sequence.
Step #7 – Create Tik Toks
Now that everything is in place, it’s time to create content.
This is really the only ongoing work you need to do, although I highly recommend emailing your database frequently (3 – 5x per week).
I try and publish two Tik Tok videos each and everyday. The more videos I create, the more leads I generate, and the more sales I make. It’s just a simple math problem.
Again, this applies to any social media platform. The first 6 steps are the foundation, and this step, #7, can be tweaked to fit any social media platform you want to leverage.
Wrapping It Up – How to Make Money from Tik Tok
It really is that simple.
It’s the first 6 steps that take some work, but once it’s place, it’s on your to create content consistently.
If you want to literally copy my exact funnel that’s generating me up to $1,357.59 in a single day, you can get the exact funnel here. For FREE.
It’s taken me six months to fine tune, and you can avoid the headaches of constant testing and tinkering.
