Why Should You Write & Publish an eBook?

There are several reasons on why you want to publish your own ebook.

Let’s cover a few of them…

Earn Money

This is probably the most popular reason, it’s a great way to earn money from.

Once published, you now have a piece of digital real estate with the potential to earning you money ’round the clock — 24/7/365.

It’s somewhat passive income, however, I do recommend consistently promoting it after you launch it. If you build it, they will come, doesn’t really apply to selling your own ebook.

Waking up to more money in your account than when you went to bed, is a damn good feeling.

Gateway Drug

An ebook can be a gateway drug into the online publishing world. This could include mini courses, websites, audio training, more ebooks, courses, coaching, etc.

Once you start selling your ebook, you’ll get customers reaching out asking for more detailed help (video walk-throughs, worksheets, etc). You can then launch a mini course that is more in-depth on the topic you’re teaching with the ebook. This is completely optional.

Enhance Your Reputation

Yes, even something as simple as an ebook can elevate your status in your niche/marketplace. You’re viewed as a thought leader. This can drastically boost your credibility.

Incredibly Fulfilling

This benefit is not talked about enough when creating a digital product (in any form). If someone purchases something from you, implements it, and sees a result — that is an incredible feeling!

You sit down once and write the ebook, and this ebook has the potential to help/impact hundreds (or thousands) of people around the world. All from you taking a couple days to sit down and write an ebook on a problem you’ve solved, a challenge or obstacle you’ve overcome.

Mindset

Without a doubt, this is the biggest thing holding people back…from achieving what they’re after.

I have spoke with many, many people over the years who “have an ebook idea”, but very rarely do they execute on it.

This business is…

90% mindset and 10% strategy/tactic/luck

We’re all just one Google/YouTube search from solving just about any problem we face.

However, it’s the six inches between our ears that prevents us from living the life of our dreams.

Success is an inner game.

What Do I Write About? How to Write and Publish Your First eBook in 48 Hours

One of the most common questions I get asked.

People really stress about this, and often times are overthinking it.

You have knowledge about a topic, a skill you’ve learned or an obstacle/problem/challenge you’ve overcome. There are thousands of people in the world that could benefit from your knowledge.

  • What obstacle have you overcame in your life?
  • What do family/friends ask you for help with?
  • Do you have a specific process/framework on something you’ve achieved? (It could be as simple as teaching your kids how to eat vegetables, how you gained xxx followers on Instagram in xx days, how you feed a family of 4 for $xx per week)

Do Research

Look online for people asking questions about the topic you want to write about.

This could be in Facebook groups, comments on Instagram and/or YouTube, industry forums, Quora, Amazon book reviews or Reddit.

All these places are gold mines for uncovering problems people are currently facing.

Validate Your Idea

Is there demand for the topic?

A crucial step, as you don’t want to spend the time/energy on something that no one is interested in.

Here are a few things to help you validate your idea BEFORE writing it;

  • Ask around on social media
  • Check Facebook groups and see the questions people  are asking. Jump in the conversation and get a gauged on interest.
  • Look to Amazon to see if there are books on the topic. If there even are a few books with some reviews, this should give you the green light.
  • If you have an email list, ask them.
  • Host a livestream (Facebook or Tik Tok) and ask your audience. I did this a couple weeks ago on Tik Tok, and it worked out well.

How to Write Your eBook

This is super simple.

You can use Microsoft Word, or Google Docs to write the ebook.

I use Google Docs for all my ebooks, as it’s so simple to use. The auto save feature, and having access to it on any computer, makes it very, very convenient.

I would start with an outline, as this seems to make the writing effortless.

  • Introduction
  • Chapter 1
    • Point #1
    • Point #2
    • Point #3
  • Chapter 2
    • Point #1
    • Point #2
    • Point #3
  • Chapter 3
    • Point #1
    • Point #2
    • Point #3
  • Conclusion

That’s literally it. It can be more (or less) chapters, this is just to give you an idea.

When you create an outline like this, it you should be able to write your entire ebook in a few hours.

The following day, read it again and make any edits.

Remember, this is a short ebook, more of a guide on how to do something very specific.

How to Design a eBook Cover for FREE

People DO judge a book by it’s cover.

Luckily, for the graphically challenged, there is a free software online called Canva.com.

Canva has hundreds of ebook templates that you can pick and personalize. It’s insanely simple to use.

Here is a glimpse at some of the ebook templates they offer;

If you can’t find any template you like, you can hire someone on Fiverr. This is what I do, as it’s much faster.

Once you’re finished, you’ll want to save it as a PDF.

Where to Sell Your eBook

Now you need a platform to list your ebook on.

A platform that will allow you to collect money from people. These platforms deliver the ebook digitally to your customer. You do not need to do anything when a sale is made. A sale can be made at 2:00 am on a Tuesday, and your customer will automatically be sent their ebook.

Money being made while you’re…

It’s a beautiful thing.

There are several options out there, both free and paid. When starting out, I recommend Gumroad, as it’s simple to use, and completely FREE.

It’s ‘free’ meaning you don’t have to pay any money out of pocket upfront. They make their money by charging an 8.5% transaction fee + $0.30 per sale.

Promote Your Face Off

Now the fun begins.

It’s time to scream from the mountain tops and let everyone know about your brand new ebook that’s for sale.

This might sound so damn obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people for get this. The more you promote your ebook, the more money you will earn.

Social Media Profiles

I would include your Gumroad link on every social media platform.

Tik Tok – Right now, I am generating about 2,200 FREE clicks to my landing page each and every month with Tik Tok. Without a doubt, it’s the best social media platform to drive a truckload of traffic to any web property you own/manage.

Twitter – If Tik Tok (video) is not your thing, Twitter is another underutilized platform to drive a flood of traffic to any website you. When I was more active on it, I was sending 1,000 clicks to my website/YouTube channel.

With the Twitter feed moving so fast, you can get away with promoting your ebook 2-3 times each & everyday. Of course, you need to include tweets that are non-promotional, or no one will follow you. I use HypeFury to schedule my tweets, and it works great.

Facebook – I would add the link to your Facebook profile. I would be active in 3 – 5 related groups where I show up daily asking questions, answering questions, commenting, etc. People will eventually check out your profile, and possibly click on the link to your sales page. People will also DM you with questions, and this is a good time to link to your ebook as well.

Wrapping It Up – How to Write and Publish Your First eBook

It really is that simple.

Do not overcomplicate it. I have spoke with so many aspiring entrepreneurs over the years who are thinking/planning to write an ebook, and they rarely every do it.

Sad to see.

Again, once your ebook is live, you have something that has the potential to earn you money ’round the clock – 24/7/365.

1,600 words on how to write and publish your first ebook.

However…
