We had another flag football game this morning. Against a not-so-good team. I figured we’d “pass the ball around” so everyone could get some touches. 2 of the younger kids didn’t show up today (the 2 kids I wanted to get the ball to). We only had 5 kids show up. It’s 5-on-5, so no substitutes. I even told the boys at halftime, “Let’s ease up in the second half. No more scoring.” We won 40-0. 5 touchdowns. 5 interceptions (one kid had 4). Funny thing is…I actually had more fun last week when we lost 23 – 21 in double overtime to the best team in the league. That game had grit. Heart. Pressure. Excitement. Every play mattered. Today? It was like watching paint dry, except the paint was running touchdowns. I winced every time we scored after a certain point, as I felt bad for the boys on the other team. It reminded me of business. When things feel too easy, you stop growing. When there’s no real challenge, you get bored, lazy and distracted by shiny objects. The losses are where the real growth happens. They messy, hectic launches. The crickets on your first offer. The “WTF am I doing?” moments that happen 237x a day. Those are your double overtime games. They test you. They sharpen you. They make the wins more meaningful. If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting for “perfect,” here’s your permission slip to get your hands dirty. Because no one remembers the 40-0 games. They remember the ones that pushed them to show up bigger, dig deeper, and keep going when it would’ve been easier to toss in the towel. Here’s to more of those kinds of games. YOU GOT THIS 🙌 In your corner,
