I have zero desire to build a $250 million dollar empire, but…. I was reading 10x Is Easier Than 2x and came across a story about Tim Schmidt, founder of USCCA, a $250 million a year company built on one thing: community. No, he did not use viral videos of fancy funnels. He built it with culture. Tim said every thriving community, whether that be Harley Davidson, or Cross Fitters, or even Creators like you & I….needs 7 things. And if you weave these 7 principles into your messaging, you stop being “just another content creator”…and start becoming the OBVIOUS CHOICE in your marketplace. Here’s the breakdown: The StoryTim says every community starts with a story. A story about where you’ve been, obstacles you’ve overcome, what you learned, and why it matters. Your story gives meaning to your message (SHARE IT!) It’s your Hell Island to Heaven Island moment. When you share the why behind your business, your offer, or your system, people don’t just follow, the join you on the ride. The IdeologyAn ideology is the belief system that holds everything together. It’s what your movement believes to it’s core. For the 3 Hour Creator, it’s: Simplicity scales and hustle fails. I’ve built my message around the idea of “Leveraged Simplicity”. You want to repeat your ideology until your audience can quote it back to you. The SymbolTim says every strong community has something visual to rally around. Harley has the bar and shield. Nike has the swoosh. You can create a symbol (logo, phrase, emoji, or even a color palette that means something). When people wear it, post it, or share it, they’re saying, “I’m one of them.” Think “3 Hour Creator” or how I yap about the “F.O.P.O. Life” Shared RitualsRituals create rhythm. For Tim’s company, it’s their member meetups and training. For me, it’s my constant reminder to focus on the 3 needle moving tasks:
Consistency builds safety. Safety builds trust. Trust builds community. The EnemyNo movement exists without a common enemy. Apple has the “PC Guy”. The 3 Hour Creators have the “Hustle Hamster”, perfectionism, complexity and the Greedy Gurus. I often times “throw rocks” at those things. Name your enemy clearly, so your audience can rally with you. The LanguageEvery tribe speaks its own language. It’s how insiders recognize each other. I have “Serve First”, “Bitch Brain” and “Make More Offers” to name a few. When you repeat and define your signature phrases, you become associated with those phrases. Language = Belonging. The LeaderEvery movement has a person who embodies the belief. NOT a guru, but a GUIDE. The last thing your people want is a “perfect” expert. They want proof that it’s possible. Share your wins AND your losses (I do this often). Act as if you’re saying to your people…”Follow me. We’re gonna figure this out together!” Start using these 7 principles in your messaging. You won’t just grow an audience, you build a cult like community (without acting like a cult) This is how you go from “posting content online” to leading a damn movement! YOU GOT THIS 🙌 In your corner,
