Turning Knowledge into Profit: My Journey to $14,305 in 31 Days Selling a $17 PDF

I recorded a YouTube video a few weeks back sharing my back story on how I earned $14,305 in 31 days selling a silly $17 PDF. I turned it into a blog post, for those who prefer reading over watching a video.

Every person on this planet has some form of knowledge, wisdom, experience, or skill set that can save someone time, money, or stress. You can package that knowledge into a 20 to 40-page PDF and start selling it online.

This is precisely what I did last July, and I want to share my journey and the process that led me to earn $14,305 in just 31 days with a simple $17 PDF.

The Backstory

On July 1st, I launched my first PDF. At that time, I had just over 800 followers on social media, and I didn’t spend a penny on advertising. It sounds absurd, I know, but I truly believe that anyone can replicate my success. I’m not promising you $14,000, but I can walk you through the five-step process I used to turn my knowledge into cash.

Launch of the PDF

Step 1: Solve a Specific Problem for a Specific Person

The first step is to identify a problem you enjoy solving for a group of people. It’s vital to choose a topic that resonates with you, rather than jumping on trends that might not align with your experience. Ask yourself:

  • What problem have you solved for yourself?
  • What obstacles have you overcome?
  • Do you have a skill that you can teach others?
  • What do your friends and family ask for help with?
  • What topics can you discuss without losing interest?

Remember, you don’t have to be the best; you just need to be a step ahead of those you’re teaching. This is crucial in avoiding impostor syndrome. Share your journey and learnings with those who are further behind.

Step 2: Write Your PDF

Next, you need to create a 20–40 page PDF that breaks down your process into 3 to 7 steps. For instance, if your goal is to help someone lose weight, you might outline a plan like this:

  1. Eat below 2,000 calories
  2. Walk 10,000 steps a day
  3. Lift weights three times a week
  4. Consume 150 grams of protein daily
  5. Avoid alcohol

Each of these steps can serve as a chapter in your PDF. The key is to provide as much value as possible. You’re essentially condensing years of experience into a shorter time frame for your readers to follow.

Step 3: Design Your PDF

People do judge books by their covers, and the same goes for PDFs. I highly recommend hiring a designer from a platform like Fiverr. You can get a quality design for $10 to $20. A well-designed cover can significantly impact your sales.

When searching for designers, look for those with high ratings and customer reviews. The turnaround time is usually 24 to 48 hours, and it’s worth the investment.

Step 4: Upload to a Selling Platform

Now, it’s time to upload your PDF to a selling platform. I recommend using Stan, especially for beginners. It offers a free 14-day trial and is user-friendly, requiring no tech skills. Other platforms can get complicated quickly, but Stan simplifies the process.

Once you’re set up, you can focus on marketing your product without getting bogged down by technical issues.

Step 5: Create Content on Social Media

Finally, focus on one social media platform to build your audience. I primarily use Instagram and Threads, as they are interconnected. Start creating content that addresses your audience’s problems and desires.

Write down 10 specific problems and desires, and create content around those topics. Don’t hesitate to repeat yourself; consistency is key. Share your plan, proof of your success, and your unique perspectives on life and business.

Building Trust Through Authenticity

One of the most powerful tools in your arsenal is authenticity. Share your beliefs, convictions, and what makes you tick. This transparency builds trust, and people are more likely to buy from someone they feel they know.

For example, I worked with a woman who created an ebook on breastfeeding after overcoming her struggles with it. She shared her journey, which resonated with many new moms facing similar challenges.

Final Thoughts

Creating and selling a digital product can be a life-changing experience. Following these five steps can help you turn your knowledge into profit. Remember, you have something valuable to share, and there are people out there who need it. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back.
