How walking 10,000 steps makes me a better entrepreneur

I started anew habit yesterday. If you haven’t noticed, I have a slight obsession with habits. Naturally, I turned that into content. Document > Create. You don’t need a bajillion followers. You won’t need a wild “I drove to Tijuana on a Tuesday afternoon” types stories. You need a life worth living out loud. Most people know I walk 10,000 steps/day. It ain’t flashy. It ain’t s3xy. It screams: DISCIPLINE. My content shows me walking & yapping. Every step = I’m showing up. Every step =…

I tried to go easy on him… big mistake.

My son and I fired up the Xbox this weekend. We hadn’t logged in for months. We could never remember the password. But Saturday we finally cracked it, downloaded Madden (my old college obsession), and hit the field. I tried to take it easy on him… ended up winning 41-6. We played again last night. Only had a small window of time, as it was getting close to bedtime. “We can play till halftime, then it’s bedtime” I told him. It was 28 – 0 at half. HE WAS KICKING MY ASS! He’s been practicing. I…

The one thing your audience CRAVES

I yap about my core values often in my content. Radical Simplicity and Serve First Mentality being two of those core values. Here’s what most miss about values… They’re not just something you list on your website. They’re something you live through your stories you share, the stances you take, and the way you show up online. Most of my content isn’t about how to make a bajillion dollars slangin’ PDFs around the Interwebz. It’s about who I am, what I believe, and why I do what I do. Anyone…

The most valuable fumble of my life

We had our 4th flag football game of the season this morning. Against the best team in the league. The same crew that crushed another team 44 – 0. 15 minutes before the game our QB wasn’t there. I looked at my son. “Ashton!” I yelled. “You’re the QB today, buddy!” He looked at me like I’d just landed from Mars wearing a fluorescent pink tutu with tentacles sticking out of my head. The other team scored first, 7-0. We answered right back, 7-7. Then it was back and forth like ping pong match on…

From Walkmans to Wi-Fi (and what business taught me)

I pick up my son from school every day. It’s always an interesting conversation on the drive home. Today’s conversation? Walkmans. Yes, remember those brick shaped things we thought were so futuristic? I told him how teenage Adam would mow the grass, sweating in the Michigan summer humidity, Walkman strapped to my hip, while blasting Guns N Roses. When the tape ended, I had to shut of the mower, eject the cassette, flip it, and pray the batteries weren’t dead. He looked at me like I had just…

Stop wishing for easy

Another hard hitting message at church this morning. Very timely. I truly believe there are no coincidences in life. He was talking about prayer, but my brain instantly jumped to one of my all time favorite Jim Rohn quotes: “Don’t wish it was easier. Wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems. Wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges. Wish for more wisdom.” Jim Rohn drops the mic with that one. Most of us spend way too much time/energy wishing for “easy” mode. We pray for…
